We’re coming up to the first anniversary of the devastating earthquake that occurred in Christchurch on 22 February 2011. Although the February 2011 quake was smaller than the previous one on 4 September 2010, it was shallower and closer to the city, and it caused significant destruction in the already damaged region.
Although things in O-Tautahi have improved to some extent since these two major earthquakes, many people are still living in sub-standard housing and part of the Christchurch CBD remains off limits. Added to this, the city is still experiencing aftershocks.
At this time, we continue to send our thoughts and our love to our whānau in O-Tautahi, particularly to those who have lost loved ones and those whose lives who have been torn apart by this disaster.
