Programme overview:

New Zealand's growing population means we'll need skilled workers to maintain vital resources we all use - wastewater, stormwater, electricity and road networks.

On this entry-level programme you'll complete a work placement and learn how to use small machinery, hand tools and work in a team.


You'll learn about:

  • applying Health & Safety practices in the workplace
  • temporary traffic control
  • small machinery operation
  • care and maintenance of hand tools.

You'll know how to:

  • communicate effectively in the workplace
  • understand and apply Health & Safety requirements and practices
  • use and maintain small machinery
  • work effectively in a team
  • assist with temporary traffic management.

You may be eligible to enrol on our NZ Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Carpentry) Level 3.

I want to use my qualification

You may be able to find entry-level work as a labourer or as an apprentice in the civil construction field.

This is a full-time programme. You need to be committed to (on average):


Entry criteria:

  • be at least 16 years of age
  • attend an interview.
