You can earn credits whilst learning about Te Ao Māori. These STAR courses will give you an insight into cultural practices around Pōwhiri, Hui and Atua. These unit standards can be completed at a distance or one day, face to face at your venue or ours.

  • STAR Huihuinga: Going to a hui?  Gain credits for your knowledge and experience.  The infomration provided in our Huihuinga learning resource will take you on a journey during which you’ll learn all about the key components of traditional hui.  Complete the resource in class or at home, send it back to us for assessment. Students that successfully complete this course will get US16165 - Demonstrate knowledge of types of hui (Level 1, Credits 2) 
     
  • STAR Pōwhiri: A pōwhiri can be a scary thing if you don’t know what to do. STAR Pōwhiri takes a peek inside the protocols & roles associated with pōwhiri. You’ll learn about the elements of a pōwhiri and most likely attend one for yourself. Once you have completed this course you will be credited with unit standard 27108 Describe the protocols & roles associated with pōwhiri (Level 1, Credits 2) 
     
  • STAR Atua: STAR Atua looks into the stories about our atua that have been handed down by our tupuna (ancestors) from the beginning of time. This course gives you a snap shot of aspects of Maori Culture as well as exposing you to Aotearoa’s rich history.  When you successfully complete this course you will be credited with unit standard 16160 – Describe the actions and characteristics of a selected atua in accordance with tikanga. (Level 1, Credits 3)
