Need the confidence and skills to look for a job?

Hei Toki, our Passport to Work programme, will help you explore your options so you can identify and develop clear employment goals, learn basic employment skills, and a range of other tools to confidently approach employers.

Develop your self-esteem, express your cultural identity, and grow your knowledge of relevant tikanga (Māori practices) through exploring Te Whare Tapa Whā*.

This micro-credential is designed for rangatahi aged 16 years and older who are no longer enrolled in school.

*Te Whare Tapa Whā is a Māori model that encompasses health and wellbeing: taha wairua (spiritual health), taha hinengaro (mental health), taha tinana (physical health) and taha whānau (family health).


You'll learn about:

  • developing your personal goals for employment
  • developing relationships
  • expressing your cultural identity
  • self-confidence
  • knowledge of tikanga through exploring Te Whare Tapa Whā.

Entry criteria

To enrol in this programme, a potential student must:

  • be at least 16 years of age
  • be a New Zealand citizen (or citizen of Australia, Tokelau, Niue, Cook Islands) or permanent resident

Delivery and workload

This is a full-time programme that consists of 36 credits, taught over 12 weeks. Throughout the programme you will be required to attend:

  • 2x noho marae (25 hours each)
  • Classes and activities (19 hours per week)

In addition to these attendance hours, you’ll be expected to complete activities to enhance your learning for approximately:

  • 7 hours per week

Kōnae Ako (Learning Modules)

Kōnae Ako 1 | 12 Credits

Demonstrate knowledge of ‘Ko wai au’ - ‘Who am I and what are my future goals?’. Describe employment and personal goals in relation to Te Whare Tapa Whā.

Kōnae Ako 2 | 12 Credits

Demonstrate ngā pūkenga (skills) in relation to employment. Demonstrate ngā pūkenga in relation to Te Whare Tapa Whā.

Kōnae Ako 3 | 12 Credits

Demonstrate te puāwaitanga (my potential) in relation to Te Whare Tapa Whā. Demonstrate te puāwaitanga in relation to employment.
