Programme overview:

If you’re a business owner, manager, team leader or employee wanting to improve your leadership skills, this programme is for you.

The NZ Certificate in Business Level 3 is an introductory leadership programme that will give you the skills and knowledge to lead a team effectively. As the workplace becomes more diverse, this programme will help you understand and manage the challenges of operating in the modern workplace.

Upon successful completion of this programme, you will receive the following qualification:

  • NZ Certificate in Business (Introduction to Team Leadership) Level 3

You’ll learn about:

  • different leadership styles
  • principles for effective team performance
  • problem solving and decision making
  • professional and ethical behaviour
  • legislation and policies for conduct.

You could enrol in our Level 4 Small Business and Project Management programme to learn about running your own business successfully.

I want to use my qualification

You'll graduate with a NZQA-approved qualification to show you have the skills and knowledge to manage a diverse team of people. You could use this qualification to step up in your career or start in management.

How you'll study:

This is a full-time programme that consists of 48 credits delivered over 18 weeks.  Throughout the programme you will be required to attend:

  • 1 x 3-hour class per week
  • workshops (average of 2 hours per week).

Your kaiako will confirm the dates and venues for your classes and workshops.

Learning Activities: In addition to these attendance hours, you’ll be expected to complete learning activities designed to enhance your learning for approximately 22 hours per week.

In some locations this programme may be provided by an approved sub-contract arrangement.

Entry criteria

To enrol in this programme, a potential student must:

  • be at least 16 years of age
  • be a New Zealand citizen (or citizen of Australia, Tokelau, Niue, Cook Islands) or permanent resident
  • be a graduate of a Level 2 business qualification (or higher) or demonstrate competence in a literacy exercise that reflects the comprehension and writing abilities for the programme
  • attend an information session and an enrolment interview.
