Kia ora tātou e te whānau,
Due to the escalating COVID-19 situation, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa has made the very difficult decision to cancel all graduation ceremonies planned for April and May 2020.
It is with considerable regret this decision has been made but it reflects the importance Te Wānanga o Aotearoa places on the health and safety of our kaimahi, tauira, their whānau and the wider community.
Twenty-two graduation ceremonies had been planned to go ahead around the motu - from April 15 in Dunedin to May 29 in Hastings.
The cancellation is very disappointing for our tauira, their whānau and our kaimahi but it’s the right decision to make in the current climate.
Graduation is a hugely important time for us and I appreciate that many people will be saddened they’re unable to walk across the stage to receive their tohu and the acknowledgement from their whānau and friends.
However, given the rapid developments around COVID-19 in Aotearoa over the last 48 hours, we are all required to do whatever we can to slow the spread of the virus.
All tauira qualifications will still be officially conferred and tauira will have the option to collect their tohu or have it mailed out. More details on this will follow.
Please be assured that Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is monitoring this rapidly developing situation very closely and is following Ministry of Health advice around COVID-19.
Hon. Te Ururoa Flavell
Te Taiurungi / Chief Executive
