Te Kōpuni Kura

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa art collection

From our beginnings in Te Awamutu in the 1980s, Māori arts have been at the heart of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. What started with community projects and arts training has grown into a nationwide movement of learning, creativity, and whānau transformation.

Today, that legacy lives on through Te Kōpuni Kura, our art collection. With more than a thousand works including those by tauira, kaiako, and some of Aotearoa’s most recognised Māori artists, these pieces are part of what makes our campuses unique.

Like whakairo, tukutuku and kōwhaiwhai in a wharenui, the artworks in our spaces tell the stories of who we are, where we have come from, and the journeys we share. They transform our campuses into places of beauty and inspiration.
