Our local story
Our Whakatāne campus is in a location that honours Te Tahi o te Rangi, a renowned tohunga of Ngāti Awa whose wisdom was said to influence the weather. Both respected and feared, the legacy of Te Tahi reminds us of the great responsibility that comes with great skill and wisdom.
Today, we honour that legacy by creating a place where knowledge uplifts, empowers, and serves our people. Learners are guided to grow their strengths, supported by kaiako and kaimahi who walk alongside them every step of the way.
We acknowledge Ngāti Awa as mana whenua and thank them for their ongoing support and guidance in shaping a campus that is welcoming, inclusive, and grounded in tikanga Māori.
