Te Mouri
Our first campus in Te Waipounamu
Te Mouri carries the meaning of the vital essence, the life principle. It represents the energy that connects people, nature, and learning. The name reflects the spirit of this campus and its place in the living world.
Opened in September 2018, Te Mouri is the first permanent home of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa in Te Waipounamu. Since 2003, programmes have been delivered across Ōtautahi and the wider South Island. Today, the campus has five classrooms hosting day and night programmes, along with weekend 1-day wānanga and noho.
The classroom names are drawn from the prophetic words of King Tāwhiao, symbolising resilience, knowledge, and vision for future generations. Names such as Hīnau, Māhoe, Patatē, Rengarenga, and Kawariki recall his saying, “Māku anō e hanga i tōku whare...” a reminder of building strength and growth from humble beginnings.
Te Mouri is a place where education, creativity, and community come together.
