Toka Tūmoana
A place for you
Our Kaitaia campus is named Toka Tūmoana, a name gifted by Te Rūnanga o Te Rarawa, the mana whenua and owners of the campus complex. This name holds deep cultural and symbolic meaning.
Toka Tūmoana comes from the whakataukī of the same name, which can be understood in two ways:
Literal: a rock standing firm in the ocean, symbolising resilience and steadfastness in the face of surrounding currents.
Figurative: a stalwart supporter, representing someone who stands strong and provides unwavering support, much like the role our campus plays in the lives of tauira and their whānau.
This kōrero anchors our campus to the whenua and the values of our people, while guiding us forward in our journey of education. Here, you’ll find a place of strength, stability, and support, a place where you and your whānau can thrive.
