Te Kura Toi Taiwhanga
A creative space
Our Huntly campus holds a special place in the story of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. In 1999, we moved into the former Solid Energy building on Rotowaro Road. A few years later, in 2002, we secured land for what became Taiwhanga. It was first imagined as an early learning centre, but research and community needs reshaped the plan. This change opened the way for the Arts Faculty, and Huntly became the home of Te Kura Toi.
Raranga, whakairo, and visual arts were the first programmes taught here, laying the foundation for the flourishing of Māori and Indigenous arts. Today, Taiwhanga is our only site in Huntly. It is a place where creative energy continues to thrive, supported by our commitment to tauira, whānau, and community.
