Kōrero tuku iho
The birthplace of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa
Ko Apakura tētahi tupuna wahine rangatira nō Ngāti Apakura. Ko tō mātou whare ako e mau ana i tōna ingoa, he tohu whakamaharatanga ki tōna mana, tōna kaha, me tōna aroha ki te iwi.
Our Te Awamutu campus is named in honour of Apakura, a revered tupuna wahine of Ngāti Apakura. Her story speaks of resilience, aroha, and whānau strength – values that guide the way we teach and learn here.
Te Awamutu is also home to the head office of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. This is where our journey as a kaupapa Māori tertiary institution began. From these beginnings in Waikato, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa has grown to serve tauira and whānau across the motu.
