Programme overview:

Want to learn about kaupapa Māori (Māori policies and practices) for your work or business? Or learn about running a business but don’t have time to attend classes? Mana Ora could be the perfect course for you.

Mana Ora is a unique programme where you’ll learn about running a business and kaupapa Māori at the same time – from the comfort of your own home. You’ll receive all the resource you need to learn, and get the support of an experienced kaitiaki (support person) who will visit you during your studies.

You'll learn about:

  • te reo and tikanga Māori (Māori language and culture)
  • business planning and strategy
  • marketing and branding
  • business communications and stakeholder relationships
  • leadership, management and teamwork
  • the Treaty of Waitangi
  • personal and professional development.

You'll know how to:

  • speak basic te reo Māori and apply tikanga Māori in a business setting
  • manage your own personal growth to support your business
  • create a business plan and strategy
  • connect with potential customers
  • market your business and build your brand
  • create and manage important business relationships
  • use Treaty principles in your business.

Where will this take me?

I want to keep studying

Increase your business knowledge by enrolling in Smart Steps to Business Level 3 or the Certificate in Small Business & Project Management Level 4.

I want to use my qualification

You'll have the skills, knowledge and confidence to develop a kaupapa Māori approach for your work or business. You could also use your skills to work with, and within, Māori businesses and organisations as well as a range of other businesses.

How you'll study:

  • at home
  • at your own pace (part-time)
  • with regular visits from your kaitiaki.

This is a part-time programme. You need to be committed to self directed learning each week.

In some areas your home-based kaitiaki is working in partnership with Te Wānanga o Aotearoa under a sub-contract arrangement.
