You'll attend a combination of:

• 1-day wānanga

• Kura whakaako (tutorials)

Dates of your noho delivery schedule will be confirmed by your kaiako.

Plan for around 20 hours of study in your own time each week.

Example tasks and activities include: 

• Working through programme resources (such as workbooks, audio, video, or online activities) 

• Completing aromatawai (assessments) and required reading 

• Practising your new skills

• Doing research, reflection, or group study

You’ll need to have access to a: 

• Computer or laptop 

• Reliable internet connection

You’ll be introduced to te ao Māori through creation traditions that show the origins of te reo Māori, tikanga and toi. As you learn these stories, you’ll describe whakapapa and begin to see how it connects to Māori identity.

You’ll be introduced to pūrākau and why they are important to te ao Māori. You’ll begin to see how te reo Māori, tikanga and toi are applied within these stories, and their significance to the Māori world.

You’ll explore the importance of te reo Māori, tikanga and toi in te ao Māori. Through pūrākau, you’ll understand how these foundational concepts operate as a values system in both historical and contemporary contexts.

You’ll contribute to a community in Aotearoa using basic knowledge of te reo Māori, tikanga and/or toi. You’ll bring together creation traditions, whakapapa, identity, pūrākau and a values system to contribute positively in context, increasing your understanding of te ao Māori’s foundational concepts.
