From the very beginning, you’ll be welcomed into a supportive full immersion environment with an experienced kaiako who understands what it takes to help you progress to a conversational ability.
You’ll learn with others and be encouraged to think, speak, and interact in te reo Māori, building your confidence step by step. Kia kaha!

Learn by doing
Your reo journey is supported through active use. You’ll:
Take part in noho marae and wānanga that immerse you in reo and tikanga
Practice conversations, group discussions, and debates entirely in te reo
Compose and present written work in reo, supported by kaiako guidance
Strengthen your ability to use reo in authentic, everyday settings

By the end, you'll be able to:
Keep studying
Continue with our Level 5, Te Rōnakitanga ki te Reo Kairangi or other reo Māori programmes that build advanced fluency and cultural knowledge.
Use at work
Strengthen your current role with deeper reo capability — especially in education, community, and service sectors.
Community involvement
Use your reo to support kaupapa Māori, participate more confidently on the marae, and encourage language use within your whānau and hapori.

Entry criteria
You can enrol if you:
Are 16 years or older
Are a NZ citizen or resident (includes Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau) or Australian citizen/permanent resident
Currently reside in New Zealand
Have completed a te reo Māori qualification at Level 2 OR
Pass an assessment of your reo level
Attend an information sharing hui with a kaiako
